  • Internet as a Second Language by Ryan Deschamps - Vi parolas Interreton? A big part of using social media is understanding the lingo.   Ryan Deschamps, e-Learning Manager for the Halifax Public Libraries will cover some of the lingo and cultural idiosyncracies of the Internet, possibly looking to Esperanto for inspiration.
  • Social Media - You're doing it Wrong! a discussion facilitated by Darrin Searancke (@DarrinSearancke) - Social Media should be engaging. Darrin Searancke (Graphic Designer for Print & Web, The Chronicle Herald) has as 10 years experience communicating in Radio Broadcasting and 10 years experience strategising for web ... plus he tweets and blogs at random intervals.
  • Flushing the Social Media Bull Sh** - Presented by Ross Simmonds (@TheCoolestCool) - The biggest buzz word in the Marketing world right now is Social Media but along with that buzz word come a lot of myths. Ross is looking to expose the myths and lies that many people have begun to believe about Social Media - Ross tweets a lot and runs his own company - Altego Marketing Solutions.

 

  • The Digital Third World to Digital Citizenship: by http://halifaxcap.ca  delves into the state of internet access worldwide and asks "How does Canada measure up?" Come join our panel.
    • Dan Robichaud   - Robichaud has spent the last decade in voluntary sector management, with a particular focus on the digital divide,  helping Canadian communities increase their online footprint.
    • Barb Allen - A founding member and past Chair of HRCAP and former member of the NSCAP Board, she helped establish the Resource Opportunities Centre, which grew out of the Terence Bay & Area CAP Site, where she managed the facility for ten years. Barb brings the communities of rural Nova Scotia and the issues of public access providers to the table.
    • Andrew D Wright -  representing Chebucto Community Net, Nova Scotia's longest running Internet Service Provider, recently presented a CBC Town Hall on the Digital Divide and will be part of our panel and brings years of insight into running a not for profit ISP and public access framework.
    • Dr. Anatoliy Gruzd -  Assistant Professor of the School of Information Management of Dalhousie University,  Dr. Gruzd's research interests include Online Communities, Context-aware Information Retrieval and Digital Libraries.  Bio & research projects  http://anatoliygruzd.com/

  • "The Digital Natives are Getting Restless" - Issues Management in Social Media facilitated by Ryan McNutt (@ryanmcnutt). Whether it's over proroguing or puppies, managing a PR controversy has become somewhat more challenging in the age of digital democracy. Ryan McNutt has had some crash courses in social media issues management through his work at Dalhousie University and plans to share lessons learned, but hopes attendees also bring along their own horror stories and case studies to share and debate.
